Jewish Refugees at Fort Ontario Elect Council to Cooperate with Authorities

SIGN UP FOR THE JTA DAILY BRIEFING

A ten-man advisory council was elected this week by the refugees at Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter to meet and discuss with shelter director Joseph Smart questions of mutual interest, the War Relocation Authority disclosed today.

Following the democratic voting procedures established by a temporary council set up shortly after the shelter opened early in August, 557 of the 772 eligible voters, persons 18 or over, cast ballots for the candidates, selecting the 10 councilmen from a slate of 25 refugees chosen in primaries held last week.
