Jewish teachers throughout Palestine struck today as a result of the failure of the Jewish National Council to comply with the demand of the teachers for an increase in salary.
Negotiations had been going on for over a week between representatives of the teachers and the Council which finances the Jewish school system. The negotiations reached a deadlock today when the Council reported that the Palestine Government, which controls the Council’s education budget, would not consent to any salary increases. A special committee under the leadership of David Ben-Gurion was appointed to seek means of ending the strike.
