Prominent Cuban personalities, including the Minister of National Defense, Havana’s Mayor, Menendez Villoch, and a number of senators, addressed a meeting called here by the Central Committee of Hebrew Societies of Cuba to commemorate the Jewish victims of the German “extermination camps” in Poland.

The meeting was held on Oct. 5 at Havana University. This was the first time that the university permitted the use of its buildings for a gathering not connected with the university’s activities. This was made possible by a special resolution of the university council “in consideration that the purpose of the meeting involves the discussion of the highest principles of humanity, and inasmuch as it is to commemorate and condemn a horrible deed perpetrated against the dearest sentiments of the democratic world which we endeavor to maintain.”
