Measures “to root out the terrorist plague from among the Jews in Palestine” was decided upon last night at a special session of the Jewish National Council at which opposition was expressed to the action of the Palestine Government in deporting terrorist suspects.
A statement issued by the Jewish National Council today said; “At the plenary session of the Council, at an all-day closed meeting devoted to the problem of the fight of Palestine Jewry against terrorist bands, representatives of all parties spoke of the danger for the Jews and for Zionism arising from terrorists. They emphasized the necessity of mobilizing public opinion immediately for an active and systematic campaign to root out the terrorist plague from among the Jews of Palestine.”
The Council also dealt with the strike of the teachers in Jewish schools throughout Palestine, which has been going on for almost a fortnight causing great anxiety among the Jews and undermining the Jewish school system. The strike was called as a result of the teachers’ demand for increased salaries. Negotiations for a settlement have been going on between all interested groups, but no satisfactory solution is in sight.
