Expressing the sentiments of the Jewish population of Palestine, the entire Hebrew press welcomes the arrival today of Field-Marshal Viscount Gort, Palestine’s new High Commissioner, and expresses the hope that during his administration Jewish aspirations here will be achieved. Lord Gort arrived by plane.
Preparations for a huge reception were made by the Palestine Government. Several hundred government officials, prominent civilians, diplomatic representatives and representatives of the press were invited to meet Field Marshal Gort when he entered Jerusalem. A smaller number were invited to attend the ceremony in Government House where the cath of office was taken by the new High Commissioner.
