Although Viscount Gort, new British High Commissioner, has been in Palestine for less than a month, he has succeeded in winning the sincere admiration of the entire Jewish population because of his simplicity, democratic manners and frankness.

Despite the terroristic outbreaks which have recently taken place in Palestine, High Commissioner Viscount Gort walks around the city sight-seeing without any escort. He broke a British tradition today by being the first High Commissioner to receive representatives of the Palestine and foreign press.

In a friendly conversation with reporters, the new High Commissioner displayed remarkable knowledge concerning conditions of the press and its needs. Since his arrival he has received representatives not only of the Jewish Agency, but also of the Agudas Israel, the New Zionist Organization and other Jewish groups. Among those received this week were David Ben-Gurion and Moshe Shertok, leading members of the Jewish Agency executive.
