The House Appropriations Committee today approved a deficiency bill clause granting a State Department request for $25,000 for full United States participation in the United Nations war Crimes Commission. The bill comes up on the floor of the House tomorrow.
The State Department has issued no comment thus far as to the possibility of returning Herbert C. Poll to London as U.S. representative. Last month Acting Secretary Joseph C. Grew said Pell would not be returned because of the failure of Congress to appropriate the necessary money in December, when the House Committee struck out a $30,000 request for salary and expenses.
Declaring that he had offered to work for nothing, Pell said he was not being continued in his job because of dissatisfaction with his demand that crimes against German nationals including Jews should be placed on the commission agenda.
