The Joint Distribution committee shipped more than $5,000,000 worth of supplies to needy Jews in Europe during the past two and one-half years in addition to its regular financial allocations, it was reported today by Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, national chairman of the J.D.C. campaign.
Rabbi Wise disclosed that “in the face of shortages of both materials and shipping space, through the cooperation of governments and other agencies, the J.D.C. was able to maintain a flow of desperately needed supplies from various points throughout the world to France, Poland, Russia, Bulgaria, Rumania, Hungary, Czechoslovakia Italy and Belgium.” J.D. C. representatives have been authorized to make a careful search for surplus supplies in ten countries. Outside of the United States and Canada be added, extensive purchases were also made in Palestine, Switzerland, Portugal, Iran, Sweden, South America, India and Egypt.
