Prof. Michael Fekete, who has held the chair of mathematics at the Hebrew University since 1929, has been elected Rector of the institution, it was announced today by the American Friends of the Hebrew University. Prof. Fekete was born in Hungary in 1886. Before joining the faculty of the Hebrew University in 1928, he taught at the University of Budapest.
The Rector is the academic head of the Hebrew University which he represents in all academic matters. He is elected for a period of two years by the university’s Senate, composed of the 38 Professors and representatives of the 112 leoturers and instructors who constitute the faculty. Prof. Fekete succeeds Prof. Leo Kayer.
