A report of the alleged mistreatment of three hundred and fifty Jewish refugees from Buchenwald who were brought to Switzerland to recuperate from the effects of Nazi persecution has aroused public opinion here. The disclosure was made by the newspaper Basler Arbeiter Zeitung.
Although the authorities at the internment camp where the 350 are quartered charged that some of the refugees were so “obstinate” that they had to be confined behind barbed wire, it is now revealed that they were insulted by the guards at the camp and referred to as “a Jewish gang and filthy rascals.” Some of the guards are reported to be notorious anti-Semites.
