London (Sep. 3)
“Goodwill is likely to exist in Palestine,” if the partitioning of the country into autonomous Jewish and Arab areas is accepted by both parties, it is stated today by Maj. Gen. Robert H. Haining in the London Times. The question of defensive measures will, thus, not arise, he believes.
“However, if partition is imposed, then the safeguarding of mutual frontiers will be a matter of first importance, Gen. Haining points out. “It would then be necessary to establish neutral defense zones, or some such expedient.”
The executive committee of the Board of Deputies of British Jews today decided to postpone the question of making representations to the British Government with regard to the status of refugees now living in Britain. The decision was motivated by the fact that further information with regard to the problem is likely to become availble soon.
