An editorial by Maurice Schumann, Jewish-born Catholic leader of the Mouvement Republican Populaire, appearing today in the Catholic daily L’Aube on the occasion of All Saints Day, pays tribute to the Jewish deportees killed in concentration camps.
Schumann urges his readers never to forget the Nazi crimes against the Jews. “We have no right to forgive,” he writes, “nor should we be content just to abstain from forgiving.”
The Rue des Rosiers, in the heart of the Jewish section of Paris, yesterday witnessed events reminiscent of the days of the occupation, when a film company shot scenes of uniformed German police arresting Jews wearing yellow stars for a new film to be entitled “Call of Life.” One actor wearing a German uniform came near to being beaten up when he entered a cafe for a drink between scenes.
