Stating that the achievements in the Jewish Autonomous Region, Birobidjan constitute one answer to some of the immediate problems of rehabilitation of European Jews, United States Senator Harley M. Kilgore last night praised the accomplishments of the Ambijan committee which is conducting a campaign to settle 30,000 Jewish refugee orphans in Birobidjan, in an address delivered at a dinner at the Hotel Roosevelt, in honor of Mr. M. M. Gousev, chairman of the Amtorg Trading Corporation.
James N. Rosenberg, American Jewish leader, also lauded “the notable humanitarian work of Ambijan, especially in helping the Jewish refugee war orphans.” Messages expressing similar sentiments were sent to the dinner by Secretary of Commerce Henry A. Wallace and Prof. Albert Einstein, and read by J. M. Budish, chairman of the administrative committee of the Ambijan organization.
