A Jewish youth, Isaac Fridenberg, is in jail, charged with murder, as a result of his resisting attempts by Peronist thugs to burn down his parents’ shop.
The Fridenberg family have a small store in Liniers, a suburb of Buenos Aires. Recently Peronist neighbors began attacking the shop and molesting the older Fridenbergs and the son, a medical student. They were insulted when they appeared in the street, and stones were thrown at the father.
In desperation, the family decided to move and arranged to auction off their stock. As the auction was to begin, a crowd gathered and threatened to burn down the store and kill the Fridenberg family. Stones were thrown and considerable damage inflicted.
Enraged by the assault and fearful of his and his parents’ lives, young Fridenberg climbed to the roof of the building and fired a shot into the crowd, killing Ercillo Pierrin, local Peronist leader.
