One Jew was killed and four seriously injured late yesterday when they were attacked by a group of Arabs who accused them of being responsible for the murder of an Arab worker. The assault occurred at a military camp near Lydda.

At the same time, four Jews were slightly injured at a camp near Ghaza by 20 Arabs who stole their clothing and money. A Jewish businessman was held up by Arab robbers near Bethlehem, yesterday, and beaten.

The melee at the Lydda camp occurred with the discovery of the body of an Arab worker who had been missing since last week. From what information is available, it is believed that the Arab, who had in his possession 150 pounds with which he was planning to purchase a wife, was abducted by an Arab bandit band. However, as soon as word of his murder was received several of the Arab employees at the camp spread the rumor that he had been killed by the Jews.

The dead Jew is Joseph Barkais, 42. Those injured seriously enough to require hospitalization are Ahron Gertal, Leon Turkenfeld, M.N. Schwartz and Hanan Moskovitz.
