The Jewish Central Committee, in cooperation with Government officials, is directing Jewish repatriates from Russia to districts in lower Silesia where dormitories, and mothers’ and children’s welfare centers are being organized with funds supplied by state and local authorities, and Jewish organizations in Poland and abroad.
A Jewish mass meeting there this week heard addresses by representatives of the Jewish Socialist Bund, Zionists, Left Poale Zionists, Communists, and the chairman of the Jewish Committee in Lower Silesia. They unanimously urged all Jews to receive the repatriates from Russia hospitably, proclaimed a month-long campaign to raise aid for the repatriates, and supported the Polish Government’s recent plea to Jews to avoid “chaotic emigration.”
The Polish newspaper, Glos Ludu, reports that the Canadian Jewish delegation visiting Kattowice declared that there is no reason for anxiety over the fate of the Jewish survivors in Poland despite the isolated cases of fascist anti-Semitism. The Canadians also appealed to the Polish press to devote more space to Jewish problems.
Dr. Moshe Sneh of the Jewish Agency in Jerusalem has arrived here and the rest of the delegation is expected to arrive shortly.
