A demand that the Palestine Government inform the Jewish community of what steps are being taken to protect the Jewish economic structure from the Arab League’s boycott, was today voiced by Dr. Emil Shmorak, head of the Economic Department of the Jewish Agency, at a press conference here.

Dr. Shmorak also demanded abolition of all war-time import and export restrictions, and called for Government attempts to bring living costs down to the level existing “in Anglo-Saxon countries” through the free importation of foodstuffs and machinery for industry and building activities.

A delegation of five leaders of local councils of Jewish settlements, headed by Mayor Joseph Saphir of Petach Tikvah, today called upon High Commissioner Sir Alan Cunningham to protest the recent searches, and indiscriminate arrests and deportations. They reported that they were received cordially.
