Warsaw (Feb. 4)
The Warsaw radio today reported that the Polish Government has already given ninety-two million zlotys to aid Jews. It quoted the Central Committee of Jews in Poland as estimating that the repatriation of Polish Jews from Russia would cost about 260 million zlotys.
Pointing out that the huge sum necessary for establishing the repatriated Jews cannot be borne entirely by the Polish Government, the broadcast said that the Central Committee is in great need of relief from Jewish organizations abroad. At the same time it reported that consignments of food and clothing sent by the Joint Distribution Committee and the American Federation of Polish Jews arrived in Poland recently.
At a press conference in Warsaw today arranged by the Central Committee, it was announced that the Polish Government does not hinder Jews applying for exit visas when they wish to emigrate from the country. It was also revealed that Dr. Emil Sommerstein, president of the Committee, is now ill and could not attend the conference.
The two Jewish delegates from Canada, Lipschitz and Caiserman, were received here by Foreign Minister Wincenty Rzymowski who assured them that the government is actively combatting anti-Jewish propaganda in the country, and that it welcomes the repatriation of Polish Jews from Russia and their resettlement in various sections of Poland.
