The British Government is planning to take action against the Arab League boycott of “Zionist” goods from Palestine, Colonial Secretary George Hall announced today in the House of Commons.
“The British Government as Mandatory Government for Palestine disapproves of any discriminatory measures instituted by foreign governments adversely affecting the welfare of the Palestinian population irrespective of race or religion,” Hall said. “The British Government will take whatever steps they consider appropriate, should the interests of the inhabitants of Palestine prove to be so affected. Steps have been taken to inform the governments concerned of the British Government’s view.”
Replying to a question by Viscount Hinchingbrooke, Conservative, Hall said that the results of the boycott are “evil,” and added: “This not only concerns my department, but also the Foreign Office. There is close contact between myself and the Foreign Secretary, and we will certainly deal with the matter.”
