Technical Sergeant Walter Galson of the United States Army, an Austrian Jewish refugee who came to this country in 1937 to escape Nazi persecution, was awarded the British Military Medal by British Ambassador Lord Halifax at an investiture ceremony at the British embassy.

Holder of the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, and five battle stars, Sergeant Galson was awarded the medal for his gallantry in action in Italy in operating a radio under enemy fire for a British officer. High-ranking United States and British officers attended the ceremony.
