Pope Will Help Recover Jewish Children from Catholic Institutions, Chief Rabbi Reports

Pope Pine III has promised “considerable help” in solving the problem of recovering the Jewish children still held in Catholic institutions where they were given shelter from the Nazis during the war, it was reported here today by Chief Rabbi Isaac Herzog at a press conference.

The Chief Rabbi, who conferred with the Pope on this question, called upon the Jews of Palestine to prepare homes for the children, many of whom will be brought to this country.

Generalissimo and Mrs. Chiang Kei-Shok have donated $4,000 to the Hebrew University towards erection of a building in memory of Brigadier Orde Wingate, pro-Zionist British general who died in a plane crash in Burma during the war, it was announced here today. The contribution was accompanied by a message from Mrs. Chiang to Brigadier Wingate’s widow.
