Loss of American relief supplies due to pilfering during unloading of ships at this port has decreased considerably, Jacques Degorter, Joint Distribution Committee representative, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today.
Losses have declined to less than one percent during the last two months, he said. Previously as much as five percent of each cargo was lost to wharf thieves. Dagorter and two Jewish DP’s have been supervising the unloading since the JDC discovered that substantial losses were being incurred at Bremen and Antwerp. Relief stores now in warehouses here will be distributed on the basis of 65 percent to Jews in the American zone of Germany, 25 percent to the British zone and the remaining tenth to Berlin.
