Violent attacks upon Jews, a demand that all immigration into this country be halted until all returning veterans have found jobs, and a proposal that refugees in the U.S. be sent back to their countries of origin were voiced here last night at a convention of anti-Semitic groups under the leadership of Gerald L.K. Smith.
The convention, which was attended by 300 people, was originally scheduled to take place in the municipal hall on Tuesday, but was barred by the chief of police following protests from the Jewish community council and veterans, women and labor groups.
Arthur Terminiello, suspended Alabama priest who was recently convicted in Chicago as the result of a riot which followed an anti-Semitic meeting there at which the Smith were featured speakers, attacked the idea of enmity between Christians and Jews and charged that the Jews plan to kill all anti-Semites. Smith demanded “the preservation of the United States as a Christian nation.”
