The two-day 37th annual convention of the American Federation for Polish Jews closed here yesterday with a farewell dinner to a delegation of Polish leaders, headed by Dr. Emil Sommerstein, chairman of the Polish Central Jewish Committee, which has been touring the United States. The Federation is at present engaged in a $3,000,000 emergency relief campaign for Polish Jewry.
The withdrawal of the British Mandate over Palestine and the placing of the entire Jewish problem before the United Nations was demanded in a resolution adopted by the convention. It also condemned “Britain’s war” against the Jews. Other resolutions called for the establishment of a democratic Jewish national state in Palestine, and commended the Polish Government’s “sympathetic consideration of Polish Jewry.”
Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum was re-elected president of the Federation.
