British aggression in Palestine was condemned at the first postwar Czechoslovak Zionist Congress, attended by 2,300 delegates from all over the country.
Paul Maerz, member of the World Zionist executive, and former president of the Czechoslovak Zionist Federation, declared that the present unrest in Palestine is due to British appeasement of the Arabs. “If England had carried out its pledge to the Jews, there would be peace in Palestine,” he stressed.
The conference adopted resolutions hailing President Truman’s aid to the Jews and pledging support to the Jewish Agency and the Haganah. Ernst Frischer, president of the Union of Jewish Communities in Czechoslovakia, greeted the delegates on behalf of his organization.
