Wise Says He Still Favors Loan to Britain Despite Attacks on Jews in Palestine

Download PDF for this date

Nabbi Stephen S. Wise said today that despite “the most lamentable acts of aggression against the Jewish people” by the British in Palestine and despite the government’s refusal to admit 100,000 Jews into Palestine, he was still in favor of the proposed U.S. loan to Britain.

“To defeat the loan would be to adopt a punitive attitude toward all the peoples of the British Commonwealth, and be deeply hurtful to the American people as well as damaging to, if not destructive of, financial stability the world over,” Dr. Wise said. “I condemn the conduct of the Palestine Government and the Colonial Office of Britain. Nonetheless, I urge the granting of the British loan.”
