Anti-Jewish outbreaks in Bratislava and vicinity, which started during the three-day congress of Slovak partisans, continued today, according to information from the Slovak capital. Jewish homes were again pillaged today and Jewish institutions attacked.
Six Jews are reported to have been gravely injured during excesses in Nove Zamky, a town twenty miles from Bratislava. Relief funds amounting to 300,000 crowns were stolen by alleged partisans when they pillaged the home of Rabbi M. Lebovitis in Bratislava. Money and valuables were also seized in other pillaged Jewish homes. The Jewish communal kitchen, maintained by the Joint Distribution Committee, was again attacked today following an attack yesterday during which many Jews received injuries while repelling the assailants.
Orders from the central government in Prague to restore order have been completely ignored by the Slovak authorities in Bratislava. The Slovak police sided with the attackers and released all who had been arrested late last night. The Slovak Government has issued a statement announcing the postponement of restitution of Jewish property, but has not issued any denunciation of the anti-Jewish outrages. However, the Slovak press today published articles condemning the anti-Semitic riots, which started when local inhabitants refused to salute the Russian flag during the partisan congress.
