Local officials in the town of Podmokly this week arrested sub-Carpathian Jews for deportation to the Soviet Union, despite orders from Prague that the Carpathian Jews were to be permitted to reside in Czechoslovakia for the time being.
Information reaching here today says that registration of all sub-Carpathian Jews, who originally resided in what is now Soviet territory, has been ordered in Podmokly. The Council of Jewish Communities in Bohemia and Moravia has protested to officials here and the Ministry of the Interior has promised to take action.
The local office of the Jewish Agency today protested a broadcast on the Prague radio which referred to the Haganah as “fascists.” It submitted a note to the Foreign and Information Ministries and to the broadcasting officials.
