Egypt, Iraq Take Steps to Check Anti-zionist Balfour Day Demonstrations

Police today surrounded the headquarters of the Moslem Brotherhood here in order to prevent a meeting of leaders of Moslem youth groups called to organize a general strike tomorrow on the 29th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration.

A report from Bagdad says that the government of Iraq today published a communique ordering the closing of all government offices tomorrow and proclaiming the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration as a day of mourning throughout the country. The governor of Bagdad has forbidden the public assembly tomorrow of more than five persons.

Anti-Balfour meetings will be held tomorrow by Arabs in Syria, according to information received here. Jewish leaders in Egypt today told the correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that they do not believe that any anti-Jewish outbreaks will take place in Cairo or Alexandria, since the authorities are determined to maintain order.
