Joseph Baratz, Histadruth leader and member of the Zionist Actions Committee, arrived here last night on a Histadruth mission.
“Palestine,” he said, “sorely needs labor.” He added that according to his opinion, the 100,000 Jews from Europe, the admission of whom President Truman has requested, would be insufficient to meet the labor requirements in Palestine.
During the war, Mr. Baratz was chief welfare officer of the Palestine Jewish Brigade, travelling throughout the Middle East, North African and Italy, wherever Palestinian units were in action. He headed the Histadruth Soldier’s Bureau, maintaining contact with 16,000 Histadruth volunteers in the armed forces.
