Gates announced over the week-end that he would ask the 1947 Indiana Legislature to take steps to ban the Ku Klux Klan “for all time.” He declared that his decision was made when it was disclosed that the Klan had “again raised its ugly head of reaction, bigotry and intolerance in Indiana.”
