Lehman Calls on Organized Religion to Create Better Men to Make World Secure

Declaring that the United Nations can be successful only if it is built “firmly on the morality and ethics of the individual man,” Gov. Herbert H. Lehman today asserted that it is the task of organized religion “to create better men, so that there will be better nations, so that these nations can unite for the cause of world peace and world security.”

Speaking on a radio broadcast of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations American Jewish Cavalcade preaching mission, Lehman said that “a good deal of the troubles of the world stem from the lack of ethical and moral consciousness on the part of many of our men and women. International morality can be no greater than the morality of the individuals that make up a nation or nations. Thus, if we are to build a world based on good will and international cooperation, we must build firmly on the morality and ethics of the individual man.”
