The British Council of Christians and Jews today adopted a resolution urging the United Nations to take measures to resettle displaced Jews in Jewish communities and to safeguard the civil and political rights of refugees. The resolution expressed concern at the uncertain future facing the displaced Jews.

Another resolution proposed by the Archbishop of Canterbury condemned terrorist activities in Palestine as a “fundamental violation of the spiritual and ethical principles common to Judaism and Christianity.” An amendment to the resolution offered by the Vicar of Leeds saying that Palestine terrorism “is doing great harm to the relations between Jews and Gentiles” in Britain, was withdrawn after a heated debate.
