Commenting on a statement by Dr. Emsnuel Neumann, vice-president of the Zionist Organization of America, that U.S. Zionists were prepared to spend millions of dollars financing illegal immigration of Jews into Palestine, Lessing J. Rosenwald, president of the American Council for Judaism, issued a statement today declaring that “the American people were entitled to know that this shocking disregard for law and order did not reflect the sentiments of all Americans of Jewish faith.”

Rosenwald said that “no one Jewish organization represented all Jews.” He emphasized that “the Zionist Organization of America represents only a small minority of the 5,000,000 Americans of Jewish faith.

“Lawlessness even in the name of mercy cannot be tolerated,” the statement declared. “As the American Council repeatedly has pointed out, a peaceful solution to admitting Jews into Palestine must be found. There can be no hope of finding a peaceful solution so long as the laws of Palestine regulating immigration are wilfully violated.”
