Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, head of the Jewish Agency’s office in the United States, left LaGuardia Field this afternoon for Palestine to attend the forthcoming meetings of the Jewish Agency executive and the Zionist Actions-Committee. He was accompanied by David Werthsim, vice-chairman of the American Zionist Emergency Council and a leader of the Labor Zionist group.

Dr. Silver told reporters at the airport that since “the United States is going into the Middle East in a big way, it should be called on to take part of the burden of Britain. It should take the initiative in the Palestine problem.”

Declaring that “the ways of the British are unpredictable,” Dr. Silver said be could not forecast how long martial law in Palestine would last, but he stressed that it was “interfering with the economic life of the country.”
