The Committee of Displaced Jews in Italy today abled to U.N. Secretary-General Trygve Lie, asking, in the name of the 20,000 Jewish refugees in Italy, that the U.N. order the “immediate opening of Palestine’s gates to all Jews who wish to go there and the abrogation of the illegal White Paper.” As committee also urged a place for the Jewish people in the family of nations as an independent state.

The cable to Lie reviewed the position of the displaced Jews two years after as capitulation of Germany, pointing out that they were living in camps under bad additions and “eating the bread of charity.” It asserted that most of the refugees not return to their lands of origin.
