Dr. Stephen S. Wise, president of the World Jewish Congress, today declared creation of a democratic Jewish commonwealth in Palestine was the only solution to the Jewish problem and the only way to avoid a repetition of the catastrophes that have periodically befallen the Jewish people.

In a letter to Dr. Victor Hoo, secretary of the United Nations Palestine In##ry Commission, on the eve of the departure for Palestine of the last members of the commission, Dr. Wise submitted the views on the Palestine problem of the World Jewish Congress. “The only hope of reviving the life and culture of the Jewish people lies in the establishment of a fully self-governing Jewish homeland, recognized as such throughout the world–that is, a Jewish Commonwealth in Palestine,” he said.

“Only by restoring the land of Israel to the people of Israel will the nations ?do history’s great wrong to the Jews and together with the Jewish people solve at ?ng last the Jewish problem,” Dr. Wise continued. He emphasized that the crux of the problem was the homelessness of the Jewish people and their lack of national status in a world where national status determined the rights and liberties of nations.
