Jewish leaders today voiced objections to a new bill being drawn up by the Czechoslovak Finance Ministry which would place the proceeds of heirless Jewish property in a fund to be used by the government to repay depositors, whose funds were blocked in an attempt to stabilize the currency directly following the liberation.
The section incorporating the heirless property in this Currency Liquidation Fund was added at the last moment and surprised the Jewish community which had been informed that the fate of such property would be decided by another law. The Jews, who believed that they would be consulted in the drafting of legislation to cover heirless property, insist that it be used for the economic rehabilitation of the survivors. They are supported by the Association of Liberated Political Prisoners.
