The British Foreign Office revealed today that the U.S. request that the Exodus refugees not be returned to Germany was made orally by Under-Secretary of State Robert Lovett to Lord Inverchapel, the British Ambassador in Washington. A spokesman confirmed that Britain’s reason for rejecting the plea was based on its inability to find any other place to accommodate the Jews.
