Judge Louis E. Levinthal, advisor on Jewish affairs to the U.S. Army command in Europe, today said that reports that a displaced New had been killed at a camp near Innsbruck, Austria, in a clash between a group of DP’s desiring to go to Palestine and those who did not wish to go, were completely ##erroneous.Judge Levinthal explained that the battle resulted when an Irgun group attempted to smuggle DP’s across the border to Italy over routes guarded by Haganah agents and into assembly centers from which the Haganah was sending groups of Jews to Palestine. When the Haganah attempted to stop the Irgunists from disrupting its schedules for sailings from Italy and detained several Irgunists, a band of extremists stormed the Weisenhof camp where the men were held. The attack was unsuccessful, but one Haganah member was killed and three were wounded.
