The State Department today confirmed reports from Jerusalem that the families of American consular officials there will leave Palestine soon because of the current unrest. Consul General Robert B. Macatee and Vice-Consuls William Porter and Philip Cottell will remain in Jerusalem, the State Department said. The departure of the families, according to the Department, was voluntary, and not ordered by the Department.

(In Jerusalem, a spokesman for the Palestine Government today told press representatives that all consuls in Palestine will be permitted to station small ?mits of armed soldiers on guard at their consulates, but for no other purposes.)
