Declaring that “there is an unassailable case for establishing an International force in Palestine,” the London Times urged editorially today that there should “be general agreement even in those quarters most bitterly opposed to partition that a force is needed to maintain order in Palestine until the accession state or states can emerge.” The paper state that Palestine “may quickly lapse into a kind of anarchy from which a religious war might emerge, convulsing the entire Middle East.” Conceding that Britain’s position is “delicate,” the Times asserted that the British Government “has a moral obligation to make the transition period as smooth as possible.”
