The American plan for a trusteeship for Palestine, ####h was presented to the Security Council today, was sharply criticized by a spokesman for the Jewish Agency who termed it “an attempt to perpetuate under U.N. auspices” British White Paper policy and warned that the Jewish people would oppose it. The #### of the Agency statement follows:
“This is an attempt to perpetuate, under U.N. auspices, the 1939 White Paper ###icy which has brought nothing but suffering and death to the Jews and bloodshed and ####s in Palestine. Practically every single provision is an attack on the fundamen? rights of the Jewish people.
“The main effect of the scheme is to subjugate the Jews as a minority to Arab nation. Despite all avowals to the contrary, the proposal irreparably prejudices final political settlement in favor of the unitary Arab state’s proposal which the ###eral Assembly, like every other impartial tribunal, has emphatically rejected.
“The U.S. proposal will be far more difficult to implement than the partition ###n. Is it the intention of the U.S. to send tens of thousands of American troops ## Palestine to suppress the independence of its people and subject them to perpetual arbitrary rule imposed from outside and “backed “by force?
“The plan will meet with the most determined opposition of the Jewish people ## will strengthen their conviction that only in statehood lies their salvation.”
The U.N. Palestine Commission today cabled Pablo de Azcarate, head of the Commission’s advance party in Jerusalem, to ascertain his opinion on whether ### useful purpose is served by the advance party’s remaining in Palestine, The gen###y consensus of opinion in the Commission was that the presence of the advance party York during the special session would be of great value to the General Assembly Commission.
