A campaign to initiate the building of a House of Parliament for the state of Israel was launched here yesterday at a joint meeting of the national executive and national council of the Zionist Organization of Canada. The project was endorsed at some 50 meetings held throughout the Dominion in celebration of the establishment of Israel.
In Montreal some 20,000 persons jammed a meeting to celebrate the rebirth of the Jewish nation and to express solidarity with the citizens of the new state. Local Zionist youth groups and Jewish veterans paraded before the meeting began. A tremendous ovation greeted the reading of a resolution calling on Canada to be in the ###ard of the nations extending recognition to the Jewish state.”
