An appeal to the United States to halt the fighting in Jerusalem and to afford food and medical aid to the city’s inhabitants who are cut off from the rest of the world was made today in a telegram sent to President Truman by the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the U.S. and Canada.

In another message to President, the Union appealed for the immediate lifting of the Palestine arms embargo, pointing out that although the people of the Book have never accepted the principle that force of arms can decide issues, they must at times take up arms to protect their persons, their families, homes, settlements and the holy institutions.”
