There Czech Nazis, Including One Woman, Sentenced to Various Prison Terms

Elek Varkelve, a leader of the pro-fascist Hungarian “Arrow Cross” movement, who aided in setting up a ghetto for Jews in the town of Kosice, in Slovakia, has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by the People’s Court in Kosice, it was reported here today.

Herta Ludz, a 26-years-old Sudsten German who served as an overseer in several concentration camps and was notorious for her treatment of Jewish inmates, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a People’s Court in Arab. Wilhelm Gottfried, a truck driver who blackmailed many Czech Jews during the German occupation and grew extremely wealthy as a result of his activities, received a five-year jail tern here.
