5,175 Jews Helped to Emigrate from Europe by Hias During First Quarter of 1948

A total of 5,175 Jews were helped to emigrate from European countries during the first quarter of 1948 by HIAS, a report issued today by Isaac L. Asofsky, executive director, disclosed.

More than 1,300 of the emigrants were admitted to the United States the report said, while more than 1,400 of the Jews entered Canada, more than 500 went to Palestine and more than 1,000 were admitted to Latin American countries. Most of the emigrants came from Germany, France, Austria and Italy, in that order.
