The resolutions committee of the Republican National Convention, which opens herd next week, today heard pleas “both for and against committing the Republican Convention to pledges with regard to Israel.

The request, that the Republican Party “support Israel’s political end territorial Integrity within the boundaries defined “by the United Nations” was made on behalf of the American Zionist Emergency Council by Harold P. Manson, director of information of the organization, which represents all Zionist groups in the United States.

A plea against “planks on Palestine by either party” was made by Rabbi William H. Fineshriber on behalf of the American Council for Judaism. He urged the Republican Party “to remove the Palestine question from partisan politics” and declared that the “Jewish vote is a myth too long employed by astute propagandists to impose their will on the country’s political leadership.”

(The Committee for Justice and Peace in the Holy Land, which is against the Palestine partition plan, last night issued a statement warning Zionist in the United States “to gravely consider the great growth of feeling in this country against the extreme Zionist pressure here, with its insistence on separate Jewish nationalism, as causing danger of disruption of our national unity and encouraging anti-Semitism. ” It also urged Zionist “not to make permanent the barriers between Jews and Arabs, but to achieve a reconciliation. “)
