An “agreement between the Polish consular officer here and Abram Jampolsky, Jewish Agency representative in Rumania, calling for the withholding of an order which would expel some 300 Polish Jews now living in this country until such time as entry visas to Israel could be issued to them was reached here today.
The Jews arrived in this country in 1939 and refused to return to Poland after the war, preferring instead to make their way to Palestine. Since their stay in this country exceeded the amount of time permitted to Poles under a repatriation agreement reached between Rumania and Poland, they faced expulsion from the country.
Meanwhile, the first graduates of a special training course for tractor mechanics organized by the ORT have taken up their duties in various rural areas. Twenty students have completed the ORT course, George Stroe, Rumanian ORT director, said, while another 40 are expected to be graduated at the completion of the next three-month semester.
