Six hundred-and sixty displaced persona, including 165 children aged one to 16, left here today for Marseille enroute to Israel, with 1,000 DP’s and U.S. Army representatives wishing them bon voyage. This departure marked the first official movement of DP’s directly to Israel since the issuance of Israeli visas by Dr. Chaim Pachman, Israeli representative here.

The adults in the group were selected for their usefulness to the Israeli war effort as workers and fighters. The volunteers embarked in high spirits, singing Batikvah. Further transportation of DP’s to Israel is scheduled and plans for their movement formulated during the truce will now be effected.
